Nowruz holiday is celebrated in Azerbaijan

Today, the people of Azerbaijan celebrate Novruz, one of their favorite holidays.

This is the third Nowruz holiday celebrated by the Azerbaijani people after the victory in the Patriotic War.

This holiday, which is one of the ancient traditions of our people, is celebrated for the third time in the territories freed from occupation. That's why the people of Azerbaijan welcome Nowruz with pride, as in the last two years.

This year, spring will arrive in Azerbaijan on March 21 at 01:24:24 Baku time. At this time, day and night will be equal. The Sun will move along the ecliptic from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere. From that moment on, Spring will begin in the Northern Hemisphere.

Summer in the northern hemisphere will last until June 21.

The Nowruz holiday, which is related to the eternal laws of nature and the unchanging order of the universe, is the first day of spring that heralds the equinox of day and night. Celebrating Nowruz means welcoming the new year, the first day of spring.

On September 30, 2009, Novruz holiday was included in the list of intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.

In ancient times, a number of nations associated the arrival of spring with the revival of nature, held festivities on this occasion, and celebrated it as the beginning of the new year. According to some ancient beliefs, the universe was created from four elements - water, fire, earth and wind. It is for this reason that 4 Wednesdays before Novruz are celebrated every year.

This holiday also has its own traditions: throwing a girdle, fortune-telling, jumping over a bonfire, growing wheat, decorating a khoncha, having an egg fight, going to a party, lighting a candle, going to a mane, playing Novruz games (for example, anzali), etc.

Beliefs about Novruz holiday: "A belt thrown at the door will not be returned empty, "If a pleasant conversation is heard from the house that is hidden, this is a sign that the wish will come true", "While jumping from the bonfire, this phrase is said: "My pain is yours, your success is mine", "A guest at the house of relatives and neighbors on Novruz they go, they take Novruz share to them", "On the holiday, they light candles as many as the number of the family", etc.
